about me

hi, i'm Samia! i'm a student, writer, and artist. i have a lot of hobbies, including cooking fun and sometimes extravagant meals and experimenting with plant-based recipes. i am not the kind of person who cooks things in a super organized way and they don't always look perfect when i'm finished, but they do taste delicious!  i started this blog just for fun and at my pace, so if i don't post new recipes for a while, know that i'm probably eating good food and doing stuff that doesn't concern you.

about the blog + newsletter

this blog is an extension of the vegan SWANA newsletter which you can find at the bottom of the page. the newsletter is a monthly email letter that i started to dissect the history, present, and future of plant-based diets in Southwest Asian/North African communities. i was excited to discover how many of my SWANA friends had moved towards plant-based diets, but i also realized a lot of us struggled with community perceptions around diet, weight, and veganism or vegetarianism. the newsletter discusses these topics and also provides two recipes per month (sometimes mine, sometimes someone else's) that are either traditional food or rely heavily on traditional flavor and ingredients, so that we can expand our plant-based options while remaining rooted in community food traditions. this blog hosts only those recipes which i write myself or which come from my family's recipes.
